| A Course in Miracles and Other Fun Things explores a spectrum of experiences that can be woven into the fabric of a CIM in a casual, conversational format. The show is just another reminder of a path, though paved in suffering, can be tread lightly and with a little laughter, as we peek behind the illusory curtain shielding Truth. To preface the following, my early and long association with the founders of the CIM does not make me an expert. I met Judith Skutch and Jerry Jampolsky in 1974 in the SF Bay Area. In 1975, Judy brought us the Course in Miracles, a set of books she had just received from Helen Schucman, the reluctant 'scribe' of these books and her associate, Bill Thetford, both professors at Columbia University. Helen and Bill soon followed to meet people and discuss the Course. For more detail of their history, go to www.acim.org. From that time to the present, I quietly studied the Course and struggled with practicing the basics, like Forgiveness. My path has been one of unraveling the persona I thought I had so brilliantly created, using laughter and occasional bouts of sanity. |

I earned two college degrees so long ago there's not a thing I can remember worth sharing. My greatest lessons came from children who had been labeled "emotionally disturbed", "retarded", "handicapped" -- in other words, judged less than perfect. This superficial identity affected their perception of the world and defined their experience. As a therapist/teacher/guide, I wanted them to recognize and reflect their spirit and learn to laugh, something they had forgotten to do. With that recognition, they began to love and accept themselves. That was their first step in knowing the truth of who they are. The profound lessons I learned from these children plus being very curious about life in general, I compiled my years of written thoughts into a book called Grains of Sand. It was produced in 1975 and in a simple form, says "we come here looking for love, forgetting we are love". A short time later I was given one of the first copies of the Course in Miracles. I had met Jerry Jampolsky and Judy Skutch in 1973. In 1975, Judy brought the Course in Miracles to the SF Bay Area where I was living. Helen Schucman, the scribe of the CIM, Bill Thetford, and Ken Wapnick soon followed. No one knew this was the beginning of a world wide phenomenon. Having met and observed this small group who had incredible integrity, any concerns about the validity of what had been written, vanished. |
Grains of Sand by Beverly Hamilton
In simple verse, this beautiful 3 part book chronicles our path of Identity from Spiritual Beings to our painfully acquired identity in a world of form and limitation. To survive this shock of separation, we create a false identity. This separation from our spirit is our real "Death". By unmasking this self-made impostor, we begin the journey home, not by dying, but by waking up.

7/27/07 - "Death & Other Myths - Part 3"
Beverly talks with 2 guests from Australia for the "Down Under" perspective. Pene Walsh and Naomi Davine join Beverly in sharing their thoughts and stories. Pene Walsh says her goal, for as long as she can remember, has been to self-discover....to find and place the pieces of the Pene Walsh jigsaw in such a way that a clear picture of her true Self emerged.
She became an explorer early and with increasing age, means and insight, she discovered more whilst seeing the big, wide world, meeting teachers and adding many brightly coloured threads, some very hard earned, to what she calls "the tapestry of me". In 2005 Pene completed her studies as a Buddhist Psychotherapist. Before that she'd had many exciting and memory-filled incarnations from turnip picker to travel agent. Consistently throughout the last 20yrs though Pene has been a self-employed massage therapist, carer to the dying, life coach and perennial student. Naomi Davine was born to parents whose surnames are Davine and Power and she laughingly says that divine power has been her constant challenge throughout her spiritually committed life. She says she has done only 2 things consistently for the passed 15yrs and considers herself still a student learning the art of both - being 1. a mother and 2. a meditator.
Naomi, a Tibetan-based Buddhist, approaches life with a gusto that has seen her as a blockading activist in defense of old growth forests, a worker with the mentally and physically disabled for 20yrs and a traveller to Thailand, Nepal and India with her son Jahmon (who she describes as a beautiful soul and her education).
Recently Naomi graduated as a Buddhist psychotherapist and now whilst counselling part-time, continues to study the area of her real fascination, Body-based Therapy. Listen:
