Subject:  Agenda - Peace In The World

Dear President Elect Obama, Vice-President Elect Biden and your entire Transition Team:

Many times during the election process I shared with others my desire to have a President who took a Stand For Peace.  I wanted someone to stand up and say:

"As President of the United States I am taking a stand for Peace.  As of this day our country will no longer support nor condone war on our Planet.  Someone has needed to take this stand and I have taken it."

At the same time, I struggled with how this could be said without having those who wish us evil believing we are weak and would not respond aggressively to a threat to our nation .

I was proud and encouraged to hear "my" President Elect Obama make this statement in his own words during his acceptance speech.  I felt in my heart that he had delivered this message that I longed to hear.

Today as I reviewed the Agenda on our change.gov website, I did not see the topic of Peace listed.

Although I understand that it is inherent in many of the other topics which are more vital to our country's immediate needs.  It is a topic that I and so many others would love to see placed as a topic on the agenda moving forward.

My heart goes out to the men, women and their families who have people serving in the Afghanistan and Iraqi wars.  As someone who voluntarily joined the US Navy during the Vietnam War and served for 9 years, I honor their service to our country.

For many years I have taken the opportunity to ask older men if they have served in the military and if they have - I look them straight in the eye and say thank you.  I can't tell you how many of them had tears in their eyes.  Like me, many of them never had someone say thank you for your service.

And as I am sure you know, taking a stand for peace is not a stand against our military and their service in war situations.

Let your term of office serve as an example to the world:

     - That we can be committed to peace without being weak.

     - That we can stand as the example to the world.

     - That working together we can bring peace and harmony to our entire planet.

As we have drawn together as a nation during this election, let us draw together as a world.  A world based in peace.

If I can be of any service to this end, you have only to ask.

Sincerely,

Daniel D. Stief
